Victory Services Club, London
The Victory Services Club is a Tri-Service, All Ranks Members' Club for currently Serving and Retired members of the Armed Forces, located at Marble Arch in the heart of London's West End. The club offers accommodation in 192 guest rooms, plus bars and restaurants along with conference and events facilities.
In 2008 Mitre Hall and Letts provided a full refurbishment for three floors of the Club, introducing a new look and feel which met the Club's objectives and with which members and their guests have been delighted.
Brief
Victory Services Club wanted to refurbish three floors of bedrooms, ranging from family to single sizes. A single contractor was required who could provide and install soft furnishings, furniture and bed linen, including providing design advice and a range of options.
Particular emphasis was placed on the rooms being comfortable without being fussy, in designs appropriate for both male and female occupancy and using FR fabrics. Furniture needed to be available in a range of units to suit different room sizes and shapes and should create a sense of space even in the smallest rooms.
Finally, the refurbishment programme had to be completed while the Club was in operation, so the installation would need to be phased and to cause a minimum amount of disruption.
Response
Mitre Hall and Letts was selected because of its ability to supply soft furnishings, furniture and linen, and its UK manufacturing ensured that lead times were short.
It put forward a series of designs, each based on a colour theme in 'unisex' colours; blue, gold and mulberry. The fabrics selected, all inherently flame retardant, were a careful mixture of patterned and plain to ensure that the finished look was visually interesting and comfortable, but was neither too fussy nor institutional.
Light oak was chosen as the colour for the furniture, maximising the light and airy feel of the rooms.
Outcome
All of the three suggested colour ways were used, to vary the rooms across the different floors. All the soft furnishings were manufactured by Mitre Hall and Letts in South Wales, and furniture was upholstered in matching fabrics.
The project was implemented one floor at a time, to minimise disruption, with Mitre Hall and Letts supplying and fitting all the products; Mitre even supplied the bedroom doors, so that they matched the interior décor.
The project was completed on schedule and the newly refurbished rooms have received excellent feedback from members and their guests.
